The Wisconsin women’s hockey program had a standout performance at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championships, with several former and current players making significant contributions. Alums Kristen Campbell, Emily Clark, Ann-Renee Desbiens, Sarah Nurse, and Blayre Turnbull were instrumental in Canada’s victory over the U.S., earning individual honors along the way.

Desbiens set a new Canadian record for the most wins at Women’s Worlds, while Nurse, Turnbull, and Clark also made important contributions to Canada’s success. Meanwhile, sophomore Laila Edwards was named the tournament MVP for the U.S., alongside fellow Badger Caroline Harvey, who earned a spot on the media all-star team. Edwards tied for the tournament lead in goals and added assists, while Harvey led all skaters in assists and points.

In addition to Desbiens’ record-breaking performance, three other current Badgers – Kirsten Simms, Britta Curl, and Lacey Eden – also contributed to the U.S. roster with points and key plays. UW Hall of Famer Hilary Knight, the U.S. captain, won her 14th medal at the tournament, breaking the record for most medals won by an individual athlete with 10 points.
