Wild Thang, an eight-year-old Pekingese, has recently taken the title of the World’s Ugliest Dog after competing in the contest five times and coming second three times before winning this year’s competition. Despite physical challenges such as missing teeth, a permanently extended tongue, and a front leg that paddles constantly, Wild Thang is described as a healthy and happy dog.

The unique appearance of Wild Thang is a result of surviving canine distemper as a puppy, which caused some permanent damage. However, his owner, Ann Lewis, has always loved him for who he is and has never let his appearance define him.

The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been a tradition for almost 50 years, celebrating the individuality and uniqueness of all dogs. The event emphasizes that it is not about making fun of the appearance of these dogs, but rather appreciating their special qualities and showcasing their beauty in their own way. This year’s competition saw Wild Thang accompanied by two other unique dogs – Romeo, a 14-year-old Pug who took second place, and Daisy Mae, a 14-year-old rescue dog who came in third.

Ann Lewis received $5000 prize for her win at the event held in California. The contest aims to remind everyone that beauty is not just skin deep and that every dog deserves love and recognition regardless of their appearance.
