Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle has recently extended his stay with the League One club until the summer of 2028. The 22-year-old, who rose through the ranks of Wigan’s academy, made his debut in October 2021. In the 2023-24 season, he had an impressive campaign with 18 clean sheets in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Manager Shaun Maloney praised Tickle for his exemplary attitude both on and off the field. Maloney highlighted the goalkeeper’s outstanding talent and expressed excitement about continuing to work with him for the next few years to aid in his development. Tickle was recognized for his efforts with Wigan Athletic by being named the club’s player of the year after a successful season.

In addition to his achievements with Wigan, Tickle also made a mark with the England Under-21 team. He earned his first cap in a match against Luxembourg in March, contributing to a 7-0 victory while keeping a clean sheet. Sporting director Gregor Rioch commended Tickle’s exceptional goalkeeping skills and his ambition to compete at the highest level. Rioch expressed the club’s delight in securing Tickle’s commitment for the long term.
