Barber expressed his frustration with the hype surrounding McCarthy on his WFAN radio show, stating that McCarthy’s film doesn’t necessarily indicate he should be a first-round pick. He criticized the scheme McCarthy played in at Michigan, noting that it didn’t highlight the skills needed for NFL success. Barber believes that much of the hype around McCarthy is due to Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Chargers, who is hoping the quarterbacks get picked before their turn at No. 5.

With the Giants potentially taking a quarterback at No. 6, Barber made it clear that he does not want McCarthy on the team. He expressed doubt about McCarthy’s potential as a top-four quarterback and believes the hype around him is inflated due to Harbaugh’s comments.
