Computer security specialist Mario Micucci from ESET Latin America explains that phishing is a common technique used by cybercriminals on social networks like WhatsApp. This involves tricking users into opening malicious links or downloading harmful files, which can lead to malware infections or credential theft. Messages containing enticing offers, promises of financial gain, or threats are often used to lure in victims.
To protect themselves from scams on social networks, Micucci advises users to be cautious about messages offering suspicious deals, unexpected prizes, or urgent requests for password changes. He also recommends blocking unknown numbers and staying informed about cybersecurity news portals like WeLiveSecurity to stay up-to-date on potential threats.
