Western Digital has recently unveiled the world’s first 4-terabyte SD card, with plans to begin shipping this new capacity in 2025. The company showcased the 4TB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDUC UHS-I memory card at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show, which attracts broadcasters and content creators.

The new 4TB card is priced at $699 and uses the UHS-I bus at Speed Class 10. It is rated as Video Speed Class V30, providing a minimal sequential write speed of 30 MB/s, suitable for 8K video recording.

Despite the increasing capacity of the SD cards, they may not be ideal for long-term storage due to factors like memory type and environmental conditions. The lifespan of an SD card is typically around ten years, so it’s advisable to opt for SSDs or external drives for storage needs.

Western Digital is also introducing a new external desktop hard drive called the G-Drive, available in two versions: a standard version priced at $699 and a high-performance version called the G-Drive Project that features a 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port and costs $929. Additionally, there is a larger version called the Mirror drive that includes an additional 24TB for RAID-1 mirrored backup, priced at $1,599.
