The West Virginia University tennis team has been selected to compete in the 2024 UTR Sports NIT Championship, which will take place from May 6-8 in Bradenton, Florida. This marks the first postseason tournament appearance for West Virginia in the history of the program.
The participating teams in the tournament include Appalachian State, Colorado, Liberty, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, Tulsa, West Virginia, and Wyoming. This championship is the second edition in women’s tennis, with TCU emerging as the winner of the inaugural championship in 2023 after defeating Stetson.
Head coach Miha Lisac expressed excitement and honor in being selected to play in the NIT Championship, calling it an important step for the program and an opportunity to represent the university on a national stage. West Virginia had a successful regular season, achieving its highest number of wins in a season with 14 victories and its first winning season since 2010. Additionally, the team secured its most Big 12 wins in a single season since joining the conference in 2013.
