The WASD Division B Science Olympiad team had a successful weekend at the State Tournament held at Penn State Altoona on Saturday, April 27, 2024. After qualifying at the Central Regional Tournament, the team competed against 35 other school districts who had also won in their regional tournaments. In total, 73 districts started the year with teams, making the competition fierce.

The WASD team won an impressive 13 medals, making them the best group the school district has ever had. This achievement surpassed their previous record of five medals won in three previous state appearances. The highlight of the day was Caiden Shacreaw and Tyler Rooney winning the state championship in the Crime Busters event. Several students also won two medals on the day, showcasing their talent and dedication.

The awards and events the team excelled in included: 1st Place/State Champions in Crime Busters – Caiden Shacreaw, Tyler Rooney, 4th Place in Wind Power – Chase Noyer, Ava Moatz, 4th Place in Write it, Do It – Maycie Bitner, Brenna Hollingsworth, 5th Place in Ecology – Izzy Bupp, Will Stein, 7th Place in Anatomy and Physiology (Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, and Excretory Systems) – Maycie Bitner
