NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft, the most distant spacecraft from Earth, recently had a technical issue that caused it to stop sending back understandable data in November 2023. However, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California announced that the spacecraft’s four scientific instruments are now back in operation. The team received meaningful information from Voyager 1 in April and has since commanded it to start sending science data once again.

Despite the recent technical snafu, its twin spacecraft, Voyager 2, is working fine. NASA is continuing to monitor and collect data from these historic spacecraft as they journey through the depths of space. Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 is exploring interstellar space, the area between star systems. As it travels farther away from home, it continues to send back valuable data that helps scientists understand more about our universe.
