Due to violence preventing polling stations from being set up, Mexican authorities have decided to suspend general elections in Pantelhó and Chicomuselo. These cities are located in the state of Chiapas and were scheduled to vote for a new president and over 20,000 national and local leaders on Sunday.

The Electoral Institute of the state cited the situation of violence and ungovernability as the reason for the decision. In Chicomuselo, unknown individuals burned documents at polling stations and threats were reported. Additionally, armed men prevented voters from being called in Pantelhó. The discovery of eleven bodies near Chicomuselo heightened security concerns in the region.

Authorities are now focused on ensuring the safety and security of residents in these areas and maintaining peace during the general elections. The decision to suspend the elections reflects the challenges posed by violence in certain regions of the country, highlighting the need for comprehensive solutions to address these issues.
