In October 1991, a confrontation between singer Igor Talkov’s former concert director Valery Shlyafman and Aziza’s representative Igor Malakhov took place at the St. Petersburg Yubileiny Sports Palace. During the conflict, Shlyafman allegedly shot at Malakhov with a revolver, causing an unintentional fatal wound to Talkov. The incident led to Shlyafman being charged in absentia with murder and attempted murder committed in a generally dangerous manner.
Initially, Shlyafman was accused of negligent homicide after leaving for Israel in 1992. However, based on new evidence, investigators have determined that he may have been involved in intentional crimes. Talkov, born in the Tula region in 1956, rose to fame after his performance at the Song of the Year festival in 1987. In 1993, the criminal proceedings for his murder were suspended, but the investigation was reopened in November 2018.
