According to a recent SEC filing, the median pay for an employee at Meta in 2023 was just over $379,000. This figure is higher than the average tech job and in line with what industry giants like Google and Amazon pay their employees. Meta, previously known as Facebook, has a workforce of around 67,000 employees, leading to a wide range in pay scales.

In comparing roles within Meta, software engineers and researchers tend to earn more in base pay than product designers and user experience professionals. However, a median salary of $379,000 is not uncommon in Big Tech. The company reported strong earnings but also plans to increase investments in AI, which has made investors cautious about the company’s future.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s total compensation in 2023 was $24.4 million, with most of it coming from security and logistical expenses. Despite his high compensation, Zuckerberg only took a $1 salary last year with most of his wealth tied to stock options. However, Meta has been on an efficiency drive since 2022 that has led to frequent layoffs despite strong earnings reports.
