In response to suspicions of allowing individuals with incomplete or forged documents to enter the Federal Republic, public prosecutors in Berlin and Cottbus have launched an investigation into employees of the Foreign Office. The Berlin and Cottbus spokespersons confirmed this on Wednesday, but no further details can be provided at this time.

According to a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, there are three known investigations by the public prosecutors in Berlin and Cottbus related to individual cases where questions have arisen about the documents used for entry. The Foreign Office has implemented organizational measures in response to these cases. The investigations are being conducted as part of suspicions of perverting the course of justice, which were first reported by magazine “Cicero” concerning a former employee of the Federal Ministry of the Interior filing a criminal complaint against Foreign Office officials.

The Berlin public prosecutor’s office has confirmed suspicions about events reported a year ago by “Cicero,” which mentioned a plan to bring an Afghan to Germany. Initially directed against unknown persons, the investigation has now evolved. The purpose and details of these investigations are currently being kept confidential in order to protect the integrity of the process.
