UNC Rex Hospital Empowers New Mothers with Blue Bracelets and Postpartum Health Education

UNC Rex Hospital is introducing a new program to support women who have recently given birth in managing their health postpartum. Women delivering at the Rex Women’s Center in Raleigh will receive blue bracelets with the phrase ‘I Gave Birth.’ The purpose of these bracelets is to serve as a reminder for mothers to pay attention to any warning signs in their bodies and be aware of common postpartum health issues. In the event of an emergency outside of the hospital, the bracelet can also alert emergency medical services that the woman recently had a baby.

Lorie Rhine, Chief Nursing Officer at UNC Rex, highlighted that improving maternal health, particularly for high-risk patients, is a top priority for the hospital. By distributing these bracelets and enhancing education on postpartum health, UNC Rex aims to positively impact the community. Post-birth health complications that women should watch out for include high fever, chest pain, headaches, bleeding, and depression. It is recommended that new mothers wear the bracelet for the first 10 weeks following childbirth to help monitor their health.
