Our UN teams operate in 162 countries and territories, working together to address a wide range of priorities such as climate action, food security, gender equality, and the safety of civilians. These teams use innovative problem-solving approaches to better serve communities. In recent news, our team in Ukraine has achieved significant milestones in their work to help communities recover from the devastation of war.

On Tuesday, April 16th, Resident Coordinator Denise Brown led her team in releasing a report highlighting the results of their efforts. More than 20 UN agencies have been involved in supporting these communities, providing aid to small businesses, repairing homes, schools, hospitals and building new energy infrastructure. In 2023 alone, they have implemented over half a billion dollars in recovery initiatives – more than double the amount from the previous year. This investment has benefited 6 million people by installing new heating, water and energy infrastructure; supported thousands of businesses; repaired hundreds of schools; and provided skills training to nearly 320,000 individuals. Donors have contributed almost $1.1 billion towards these efforts – which is 42% of the amount requested for recovery programs in Ukraine over the past two years.

The ongoing humanitarian response to Russia’s invasion continues to complement the UN team’s recovery efforts. As such, continued support is crucial for their success. For more updates on UN teams worldwide, you can check out our previous daily updates.
