The possibility of EU accession for Ukraine has been discussed, with the EU Commission considering starting accession negotiations by the end of June. The EU has already mobilized significant funds for urgent repairs to the energy system and aims to decentralize and strengthen it. The conference brought together international actors from politics, business, and society to discuss reconstruction and future prospects for Ukraine.
The resignation of Mustafa Najjem as head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development just before the conference sparked controversy. His agency played a crucial role in protecting energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. Tensions surrounding his resignation point to power struggles and jealousies within President Zelensky’s entourage, affecting the effectiveness of reconstruction efforts in Ukraine.
