Dan Hurley, the head coach of the Connecticut Huskies, was captured coaching during the national championship game against the Purdue Boilermakers at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on April 8, 2024. The image by Mitchell Layton/Getty Images shows the intensity of the game.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Hurley may be facing a tough decision about his future very soon. The coach plans to make a decision on whether to stay at UConn or become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers as soon as Monday. This decision comes after Hurley led UConn to two consecutive NCAA championships.

During their meeting in L.A., Hurley expressed his pride in what he has achieved with the Huskies and mentioned that the Lakers presented a “compelling case” and a “compelling vision”. He also spoke highly of Lakers VP and GM Rob Pelinka, as well as owner Jeanie Buss. If he decides to join the NBA, Hurley will be replacing Darvin Ham, who was recently fired after a first-round playoff exit.

The Lakers have struggled since winning the NBA championship in 2020, with early playoff exits in subsequent seasons. With Hurley as head coach, the Lakers hope to revitalize the team and make a deep postseason run in the upcoming season.
