T’Vondre Sweat, a top defensive prospect of this year’s rookie class from Texas, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated less than three weeks before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft. According to KXAN, Sweat was detained at Travis County Jail in Austin, Texas, and is currently ranked as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2024 class by CBS Sports.

Sweat’s arrest has raised concerns about his future in the league, particularly since he is expected to be a top pick in the upcoming draft. Despite being an All-American and Outland Trophy winner in 2023 as the nation’s top interior offensive or defensive lineman, Sweat has not yet joined the league. However, there is a possibility that his arrest could affect his draft stock and raise questions about his character.

Despite this setback, Sweat has continued to meet with NFL teams, visiting the Tennessee Titans on Monday and scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks later in the week. The incident occurred when Sweat was involved in a crash on Interstate-35 while driving an SUV, with the other driver leaving the scene on foot. Texas law states that a Class B misdemeanor like his is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000 or both.

Sweat’s younger brother Josh also plays for Philadelphia Eagles as their pass rusher and he might face some consequences due to T’Vondre’s arrest but nothing much can be done since he hasn’t joined NFL yet. However, it’s still uncertain how much this will impact T’Vondre’s draft stock and future prospects in professional football.
