In the second half of 2026, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) announced its plans to produce a new chip manufacturing technology called “A16” in Santa Clara, California. This announcement was made by TSMC’s co-Chief Operating Officer Y.J. Mii at a conference in Santa Clara.

The A16 technology will allow for the delivery of power to computing chips from the backside of the chip, which will enhance the speed of artificial intelligence chips. This development is an area where TSMC has been competing with its U.S. rival, Intel.

TSMC currently holds the title as the world’s largest contract manufacturer of chips for companies like Nvidia and is known for producing the fastest chips in the world. However, Intel recently announced its “14A” technology, which it expects will surpass TSMC’s capabilities in terms of speed in 2026. This competition between TSMC and Intel highlights the fast-paced advancements in chip manufacturing technology and the race to produce the most efficient and powerful chips for various applications.

TSMC has been working on developing this new technology for some time now, and this announcement marks a significant milestone in their efforts to stay ahead of their competition.

“We are excited about this new development and believe that it will allow us to deliver even faster and more powerful computing chips,” said Y.J. Mii, co-Chief Operating Officer at TSMC.

This advancement in chip manufacturing technology will have far-reaching implications across various industries such as gaming, healthcare, finance, and transportation.

In summary, TSMC’s upcoming production of A16 technology is set to revolutionize chip manufacturing by providing faster and more efficient computing chips that will drive innovation across multiple industries.
