Recently, UC San Diego Health and Tri-City Healthcare District in Oceanside, Calif., have been working together to establish a joint power agreement. The agreement is still under negotiation, with an initial plan for UC San Diego Health to assume Tri-City’s debts. However, the completion of the agreement has been delayed due to ongoing challenges and setbacks.

In October 2023, Tri-City selected UC San Diego Health as a partner for the joint power agreement. Despite the delay in finalizing the agreement, both organizations remain committed to stabilizing healthcare services in the area. UC San Diego Health CEO Patricia Maysent expressed her strong dedication to completing the deal, acknowledging the difficulties faced by Tri-City due to the pandemic and a cyberattack that occurred in November 2023.

Tri-City has recently experienced positive margins for the first time in approximately two years at the beginning of 2024. To ensure financial stability, Tri-City has been closely collaborating with UC San Diego Health to analyze its financials and validate that they are meeting all targets and forecasts. Both organizations are working diligently to overcome any obstacles that may arise during negotiations and complete the joint power agreement as soon as possible.
