Trenton health officials are set to visit homes in the city to test children for lead exposure, as part of an initiative aimed at educating parents on the importance of testing and providing free lead tests for children in the community. The announcement comes after the discovery of high lead levels in soil around Ulysses S. Grant Intermediate School in January by the EPA, which is believed to have originated from Trenton’s pottery industry.

The press conference, scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. on the steps of city hall, will outline the steps being taken by the city’s health department, Trenton schools, and local organizations like Isles to address this public health issue. The collaboration between these entities is crucial in providing comprehensive support to families affected by lead exposure.

The initiative comes as part of a larger effort by Trenton officials to address lead poisoning in the city and provide resources and support to affected families. City officials hope that by providing free lead tests and education about lead exposure, they can help prevent future cases of lead poisoning and improve the overall health of children in Trenton.
