The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to begin a three-year project to convert existing HOV lanes on U.S. Highway 75 (Central Expressway) into “Technology Lanes.” Construction in the northbound lanes will continue until fall 2025, with the aim of easing congestion for all travelers on Central Expressway, regardless of the time of day.

During peak hours, which are from 7 to 9 a.m. southbound and 4 to 6 p.m. northbound, HOVs, low-emission vehicles, and motorcycles will be allowed to use the technology lanes. However, during non-peak hours, single-occupant vehicles will also have access to these lanes. The project includes removing pylons, restriping lanes, upgrading center barriers, installing dynamic and overhead signs, and adding high-mast lighting along Central Expressway from I-635 to Highway 121.

The $57 million project will be carried out in stages, with different “Rolls” covering specific sections of the expressway. These rolls include areas from 635 to Beltline Road, Beltline Road to Campbell Road, Campbell Road to Highway 190, Highway 190 to Parker Road
