Frisco police have confirmed the safe recovery of 17-year-old Indian-American student Ishika Thakore, who had gone missing in the US earlier this week. The Frisco Police Department issued a public alert on Monday seeking help to locate her, providing details about her appearance and last known whereabouts. Fortunately, the police were able to locate Thakore today and thanked the public for their assistance.

This incident brings attention to a concerning trend of deaths among Indian students studying in the US. Just this week, a 25-year-old student from Hyderabad was found dead in the US where he had moved for his studies in 2023. This marks another tragic loss in a series of deaths among Indian students studying in the US. The consulate has been in contact with the family of Mohammed Abdul Arfath, who had been missing for nearly three weeks before his body was discovered.

Despite these tragic incidents, the US continues to be a popular destination for Indian students seeking higher education opportunities. In the 2022-2023 academic session, over 2.6 lakh Indian students migrated to the US, reflecting a 35% increase from the previous academic year. This trend highlights the strong academic appeal and opportunities offered by US institutions to Indian students.
