In a tragic turn of events, three children of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyah were killed in an Israeli air attack on their car in the Shati refugee camp area of the Gaza Strip. The news was devastating for Haniyah, who has been living in Qatar for years but still maintains a strong connection to his homeland and its struggle for liberation.

Haniyah, born in Shati, spoke out about his family’s heavy toll from violence and loss. He has experienced over “60 martyrs,” including his own grandchildren, and emphasized the importance of their sacrifices in creating hope, freedom, and independence for their cause and nation. Despite the personal tragedy he is facing, Haniyah remains committed to Hamas’s demands for a ceasefire and continues to criticize Israel for what he perceives as a spirit of revenge and disregard for law in their actions.

The Israeli Army confirmed the attack on Haniya’s children, stating that they were members of the armed wing of Hamas. As a key leader of Hamas, Haniyah plays a significant role in decision-making at a regional level but defers to Yahia Sinwar for final decisions within the Gaza Strip. Despite ongoing violence efforts have been made to seek a truce to end the devastating conflict that began in response to a previous attack.
