On May 6th, over 200 patients have been discharged from the hospital and nearly 12 severe cases have been transferred to hospitals. According to a report from the Long Khanh City People’s Committee, more than 560 people were hospitalized due to poisoning after eating bread. However, many others with mild symptoms went to the hospital for a check-up before returning home.

The most severe case among the victims is a six-year-old boy who is being treated at Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. He remains in a deep coma and has little urine, still on a ventilator and dialysis. Another serious case involves a seven-year-old child being treated at Dong Nai Children’s Hospital, whose health is improving. The remaining severe cases are currently stable but under observation. The case file has been handed over to the police investigation agency for further processing.

Doctor Le Quang Trung, Director of Dong Nai Department of Health, stated that three seriously ill pediatric patients were infected with E. coli bacteria and exhibited symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after consuming bread sold at a store in Xuan Binh ward on April 30th. The shop has since stopped operating and food samples collected from the bakery are being tested. An interdisciplinary inspection team sealed the freezer at the facility, which contained various food items purchased from small retail stores and processed by the shop without proper sales contracts.
