Towson senior men’s swimmer Brian Benzing is not only an outstanding performer in the pool but also excels academically. On Wednesday, he was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second team, with a 3.76 GPA and a major in sports marketing.
Benzing has been a standout performer throughout his swimming career at Towson, earning numerous accolades for his achievements both on and off the pool deck. He was named the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Year for four consecutive seasons, making him one of the most decorated swimmers in Towson history. At the NCAA Championship, Benzing received All-America honors after finishing second in the 100 breast with a record-setting time of 50.59 and was an honorable mention All-American in the 200 breast, setting a CAA record with a time of 1:52.71 in the prelims. He also placed 23rd in the 200 IM at the NCAA’s, setting another CAA record with a time of 1:42.82.
At the CAA Championship, Benzing earned six medals and was named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet for three years straight. He won gold in all four individual events he entered and helped lead Towson to several meet records, including setting a new mark for best free relay performance ever at that meet.
Benzing’s dedication to both academics and athletics has earned him recognition from multiple organizations throughout his career at Towson, including being named to this prestigious academic all-America team alongside many other top collegiate athletes across various sports.
