The U.S. took a two-goal lead with seven minutes left in the second period thanks to a goal by Hutson, assisted by Vansaghi and Skahan. However, Canada responded before the end of the period with a power play goal by McKenna, making it a 3-2 game.

In the third period, Kempf made a crucial save on a back-door attempt by Canada’s captain, keeping the U.S. within one goal. McKenna scored again to tie the game at 3-3 with just over nine minutes remaining. Canada then scored two quick goals on a major power play to take a 5-3 lead.

With just over four minutes left in the third, Zeimer scored to pull the U.S. within one goal again. However, McKenna sealed the win for Canada with an empty-net goal in the final seconds.

Hutson was named Team USA’s player of the game, while Hagens was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Hagens also received the Directorate Award for Best Forward, while Hutson received the Directorate Award for Best Defender. Both players were named to the Media All-Star Team. The U
