Chris and Jon Watts, sons of retired Evelyn Watts, RN, have established an endowed scholarship in their mother’s honor to support students pursuing a career in health care. The Evelyn Watts Endowed Scholarship was recently introduced by the CHI Health Good Samaritan Foundation during a reception held on April 4, where Foundation Director Cindi Richter surprised Evelyn with the announcement.

The scholarship program has been supporting future nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, and other health professionals since 1989, thanks to generous donors like the Watts family. The 2024 scholarship selection process has already begun, with recipients set to be announced later in the spring.

Since its inception in 1989, the Good Samaritan Health Career Scholarship Program has awarded over $311,141 to 457 individuals who have gone on to provide health care in Kearney and the surrounding communities. Contributions from donors like the Watts family help ensure that the program can continue to support students pursuing careers in health care. To show appreciation and support for the scholarship, fellow employees, family, and friends can make donations through the Good Samaritan Foundation’s website.
