In the Italian town of Eboli, a 15-month-old baby tragically lost his life due to injuries inflicted by two pit bull dogs. The attack left not only the baby dead but also injured his mother as she tried to rescue him from the aggressive dogs. Reports suggest that the dogs attacked the child as the mother was leaving her house, snatching the baby from her hands.

The child’s aunt, Milena Santoro, confirmed that there was confusion initially regarding who was holding the baby at the time of the attack. She stated that the dogs belonged to a friend of the family and did not know the child. The mayor of Eboli, Mario Conte, described the attack as ferocious and devastating, leading to the tragic death of an innocent baby.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with over a hundred paramedics and Carabineros arriving to investigate. The Salerno Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the matter to determine what led to this terrible tragedy. Italy has been grappling with dog-related incidents recently, with Codacons calling for stricter measures to ensure public safety and regulate ownership of potentially dangerous breeds.

Organizations like OIPA have also emphasized responsible dog ownership and regulations are necessary to prevent such tragedies from happening again. Italy lacks an official list of potentially dangerous dogs since 2009, raising concerns about public safety in towns like Eboli where these attacks can happen unexpectedly. The loss of this young boy has sparked debates around dog ownership laws and safety measures necessary for citizens’ protection.

Italians must come together now to ensure that their beloved pets are safe for themselves and others around them while still being able to enjoy their companionship.
