In our country, two CEOs of listed companies have earned more than 10 million euros annually for the first time. This achievement was attained by Ilham Kadri of Solvay and Tim Van Hauwermeiren of Argenx.

In 2023, Ilham Kadri was the top-earning CEO in the Bel20, which is the 20 most important listed companies in our country. Her exceptional bonus of 12 million euros contributed significantly to her total package of 17.3 million euros, which surpassed the 10 million barrier for the first time. This milestone set a new standard for CEO compensation in our country.

Tim Van Hauwermeiren also reached this milestone by earning an impressive amount last year. His earnings included a fixed salary, cash bonus, and stock options, totaling 10.75 million euros. This achievement has sparked discussions about executive compensation and income inequality in the corporate world. However, for Kadri and Van Hauwermeiren, their exceptional bonuses and earnings have set a new standard for CEO compensation in our country.

The disparity between CEO earnings and average employee wages remains high at 56 times, with CEOs earning over 47,600 euros annually on average while employees earn much less than that.

Despite this disparity, it’s worth noting that both Kadri and Van Hauwermeiren’s earnings are not entirely out of line with industry standards or their respective company’s financial performance. Additionally, they have contributed to significant growth and success within their respective organizations.

Overall, while there may be some concerns about executive compensation and income inequality in the corporate world, it’s essential to recognize that both Kadri and Van Hauwermeiren have earned their money through hard work and dedication to their companies’ successes.
