In 2023, approximately 260,000 people, or 5.2 percent of the working population, have a second job. This is an increase from 3.8 percent in 2018. One quarter of wage earners are working part-time.
Interestingly, there used to be more men than women with multiple jobs, but that gap has now closed. Nearly six in ten additional jobs are performed as self-employed individuals, with popular sectors including human health, education, and wholesale and retail trade.
Furthermore, women are more likely than men to work part-time as salaried employees in Belgium. The most popular part-time regime for both genders is working four-fifths of their regular hours.
