Mark Vientos was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse by the New York Mets two days after hitting a walk-off homer against the St. Louis Cardinals. The move was made to clear room on the 26-man roster for Starling Marte, who was activated from the bereavement list.

Although Vientos has been performing well in Triple-A for the past two seasons, he may not have a clear role at the moment with DJ Stewart and J.D. Martinez currently on the roster. The team’s only backup middle infielder is Joey Wendle, making any potential swap of Wendle for Vientos unlikely. If the Mets decide to part ways with Wendle in the future, they will likely replace him with another player capable of playing shortstop and second base.

Despite having a chance at the Mets’ DH job, Vientos is now in a difficult position due to his defensive limitations at third base and his limited playing time in the majors. However, he remains determined to work hard and make the most of his opportunities in the future.

Vientos has shown promise at bat in both Triple-A and Major League Baseball, particularly in power hitting when given regular playing time. If Brett Baty struggles at the plate, Vientos might be considered as an option for third base position by Mets management. Despite this setback, Vientos is focused on seizing opportunities and working hard to achieve his goals in baseball.
