Architect Samuel Gordon will be sharing his insights on net zero architectural designs at the final installment of Science Saturdays hosted by the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences on May 11 at 11 a.m. The talk, titled “When Science Hits Home,” will take place at the LBIF in Loveladies.

Gordon has a long history with LBI, having visited as a child and attending classes at the Foundation from a young age. After receiving a degree in architecture from Temple University in 1986, he moved to the Island full-time and completed an apprenticeship. In 1992, he founded Samuel Gordon Architects, focusing primarily on private homes on LBI.

In 2008, Gordon attended a conference at Google headquarters where he gained knowledge about designing energy-efficient homes. He implemented these elements in his personal home in High Bar Harbor, which served as a testing ground for environmentally-conscious elements leading to the design of net zero homes. The upcoming discussion will cover topics such as solar panels and geothermal wells, highlighting how these elements can make a home more comfortable and reduce operating costs to zero.

Registration for this event can be done online on the LBIF website or through email invitations sent to subscribers. All Science Saturday presentations this season are free to attend.
