In 1998, Peyton Manning set the record for most interceptions thrown by a rookie quarterback while playing for the Colts. However, he hopes that someone will soon break that record. At an event in Denver, Manning mentioned that he would like to see a rookie quarterback throw 29 interceptions to take his name off the record books. Despite this, he doesn’t want Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix to break his record. He acknowledged that it might be challenging for a rookie to break the record since they often get benched if they have a high number of interceptions.

Since Manning’s record-setting year, the most interceptions thrown by a rookie quarterback is 22 by DeShone Kizer in 2017. There are several rookie starting quarterbacks in the NFL this season, but it is unlikely that any of them will throw enough interceptions to surpass Manning’s record of 28 in a season. Manning seems to believe that with 17 games in a season now, it shouldn’t be too difficult for a rookie to throw 29 interceptions. However, he acknowledged that his record may be safe for now.
