Jake Bates, a kicker for the Michigan Panthers in the United Football League, has been making waves with his impressive field goal kicking abilities. In their first game of the season, Bates kicked a 64-yard field goal as time expired to secure a victory for the Panthers. Just a week later, he nailed a 62-yard field goal in their second game.

Bates’ success on long field goals is particularly noteworthy when compared to other leagues. In fact, there was only one 62-yard field goal in the NFL last season, by Matt Prater of the Cardinals. Bates has already matched that distance and then some, with his 64-yarder. This has garnered attention from NFL teams who are keeping a close eye on the young kicker.

Despite his relatively unknown status and limited experience with field goals since high school, it seems likely that he will receive offers to join an NFL training camp in the near future. Teams are intrigued by his powerful leg and consistent performance on long field goals.
