Recently, my friend called me for advice on a safe but not too large car for his teenage sons. As I was considering what car would be suitable for my college-bound daughter, I took a Hyundai Kona on a road trip from Silicon Valley to Santa Barbara to see if it would be a good fit.

During the journey to UC Santa Barbara, my family and I got to try out the 2024 Hyundai Kona and here are the highlights of our experience. Our test vehicle cost $34,695, which included freight and handling. This price was for the Limited AWD version, which came with many impressive features like ventilated seats, a Bose speaker system, and stylish wheels. For a more affordable option, the SE model is priced at about $25,000, but lacks some of the top safety features found in the Limited AWD version.

While the Limited AWD version is pricier, the SE model may be a better deal for some. It is about $10,000 cheaper and still retains many of the great features of the more expensive version. The SE model may not have the most powerful engine or the coolest wheels, but it still offers a great driving experience. Additionally, the Hyundai Kona is available for leasing, which could be a good option for those looking for a more affordable way to drive this vehicle. Overall, our road trip confirmed that the Hyundai Kona is a safe and practical choice for young drivers looking for a car that won’t break their bank.
