Robert Hayes has been named the new president and CEO of the Calgary Flames, with Lorenzo DeCicco joining as the chief operating officer. John Bean, who had been serving as president and CEO of the Calgary Flames for several years, has stepped down from his role to take on a senior advisory position.

In an internal memo obtained by The Athletic, Bean announced his departure and expressed mixed emotions about leaving the organization he had been a part of since 2010. He praised the passion, energy, and humility of CSEC’s employees and thanked the ownership group for their guidance and support throughout his time at CSEC.

Bean will continue to work with the Flames in a senior advisory role as they transition to a new event centre from their current home arena at the Saddledome. The City of Calgary has hinted that an update on the new event centre project could be shared next month.

Bean informed Flames ownership of his decision to leave CSEC last year, and his replacements are set to begin their roles on June 3. Under Bean’s leadership, CSEC oversaw operations for several teams including the Flames, Calgary Wranglers, Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Roughnecks, and Calgary Hitmen. The new arena project for the Flames is expected to start construction in 2024 and be completed in either 2026 or 2027 following an agreement in principle reached between the City of Calgary, CSEC, and the province of Alberta.
