The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that approximately 10 projectiles were fired from the area near the Rafah Crossing towards Kerem Shalom, following a rocket attack by the armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades. This led to the closure of Kerem Shalom crossing, which is the main point of entry for humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In response to the rocket fire, IAF fighter jets targeted the launcher from which the projectiles were fired and also struck a military structure in the launcher area. The IDF accused Hamas of launching rockets near civilian shelters and exploiting humanitarian facilities, using civilians as human shields.

The escalation of violence in the area highlights ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. The closure of Kerem Shalom crossing further complicates matters by impacting crucial humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza’s people, exacerbating an already dire situation in the region. Urgent efforts are needed to de-escalate tensions and find a peaceful resolution to this conflict before more harm is done to civilians on both sides.
