In recent years, Taiwan has been hit by several devastating earthquakes. In 2016, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake caused a 17-story building to collapse in Tainan, resulting in the deaths of at least 116 people. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Taiwan’s central mountain range, with Tainan being one of the hardest-hit areas.

On Wednesday, Taiwan was struck by its strongest earthquake since 1999, when a 7.6-magnitude tremor hit central Taiwan and claimed the lives of more than 2,400 people. Over 100,000 houses were damaged or destroyed as a result of this catastrophic earthquake.
