Sunderland has announced the signing of goalkeeper Simon Moore from Coventry City, with the 34-year-old set to join the Black Cats after his contract with his current club expires at the end of the month. Moore has agreed to a two-year deal with the option of a further year, providing competition for first-choice goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

The move comes after Sunderland sold backup goalkeeper Alex Bass to Notts County for an undisclosed fee. Moore brings with him Premier League experience from his time with Sheffield United, as well as stints at Brentford, Cardiff City, and Bristol City. He played a key role in Sheffield United’s promotion from League One to the Championship in 2017.

Football director Kristjaan Speakman expressed the importance of having a goalkeeper who can push Patterson in training and matches, while also providing mentorship to the younger goalkeepers at the club. Moore’s experience and qualities are seen as a valuable addition to the squad, bringing a different profile to the team. Sunderland is looking forward to seeing Moore in action and benefiting from his contributions both on and off the field.
