A new partnership has been formed between St. John’s and the University of Rochester Medical Center in order to address gaps in community health care services in the greater Rochester area. By combining their resources, networks, and expertise, the two organizations aim to improve access to care and better meet the needs of the community.

One of the main focuses of the collaboration is to address issues such as regional hospitals operating above licensed bed capacity due to a shortage of available long-term care beds and gaps in community services that impact health care delivery. By working together, St. John’s and URMC hope to address these challenges and improve the overall health care system in the region.

As part of the agreement, St. John’s will receive an investment from URMC to help open more skilled care beds and expand services in high-needs areas such as a new chronic dialysis unit and pediatric skilled care. This investment will help to improve access to specialized care for patients in the community and alleviate some of the strain on regional hospitals.

Steve Goldstein, president and CEO for Strong and Highland hospitals, and senior vice president for URMC, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in helping patients receive high-quality treatment in the most appropriate care setting. With fewer hospital beds per capita than any other part of New York, this partnership between St. John’s and URMC is a critical step towards improving access to healthcare for those living in the greater Rochester area.
