In Albany, New York, South Carolina’s women’s basketball team led the fourth-seeded Indiana Hoosiers to a thrilling 79-75 victory in the NCAA Tournament. With this win, the Gamecocks advanced to the Albany 1 Regional Final and maintained their undefeated record, just three wins away from completing a perfect season.
In their previous games, South Carolina had dominated with ease, winning by 52 and 47 points. However, they faced a new challenge against Indiana, who managed to cut a 22-point deficit in the third quarter behind Sydney Parrish’s impressive performance of 21 points. The Hoosiers made a late rally, getting within two points at 74-72 with just over a minute left in the game.
Despite the pressure, South Carolina’s Raven Johnson made a crucial 3-pointer to extend their lead. Indiana tried to close the gap but missed two contested 3-pointers in the final seconds. South Carolina had initially taken control early on with their strong inside game, limiting Indiana’s scoring opportunities.
Kamilla Cardoso played an important role throughout the matchup, containing Indiana’s Mackenzie Holmes while also contributing 22 points on offense. The Gamecocks had led by as many as 22 points in the third quarter before Indiana mounted a comeback and reduced it to 61-50. Despite this setback, South Carolina managed to maintain its lead and secure a hard-fought victory over Indiana.
South Carolina will now face Oregon State in the next round of competition. They previously defeated Oregon State three years ago in the NCAA Tournament and will look forward to continuing their undefeated streak and advancing to the Final Four once again.
