Sony is set to release a Pro version of its PlayStation 5 console, known as Trinity, by the end of the year. The technical specifications of the PS5 Pro have been leaked, and The Verge has obtained the full list from what are said to be internal sources. The PS5 Pro will come with a more powerful GPU and a slightly faster CPU, making it capable of handling ray tracing and achieving higher resolutions and frame rates in select titles.

According to internal documents, the PS5 Pro’s graphics card is expected to be around 45% faster than the standard PlayStation 5, with a larger GPU and faster system memory to improve ray tracing in games. The console will also feature a more powerful ray tracing architecture, delivering up to three times better performance than the regular PS5. Despite the introduction of the new model, Sony will continue to sell the standard version of the PS5, with developers able to support both consoles with a single game package and existing games receiving updates for improved performance.

Developers have reportedly received development kits for the PS5 Pro, and Sony anticipates that every game submitted for certification from August onwards will be compatible with it in preparation for its Christmas holiday launch. The CPU in the PS5 Pro will operate at an increased frequency of 3.85GHz compared to 3.4GHz on the standard PS5, resulting in approximately 10% faster performance. Additionally, there will be improvements in system memory speed; on the PS5 Pro RAM speed has been increased from 448GB/s to 720GB/s compared to base PS5’s RAM speed of 448GB/s.

These improvements in speed and memory will benefit new support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, Sony’s response to upscaling technologies from Nvidia and AMD, resulting in higher frame rates and better resolution. With these advancements, consumers can expect an even more immersive gaming experience when they launch their PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution enabled games on their new PS5 Pro console later this year
