In an effort to expand its reach, SK ID Solutions, a company hailing from Estonia, has set its sights on Belgium. The company’s identification app, Smart-ID, is expected to be compatible with the first digital platforms in the country by summer. This will put Smart-ID in direct competition with Itsme, the login app used by major Belgian banks and telecom companies.
Initially, SK ID Solutions is targeting private companies in Belgium, such as financial institutions, medical companies, and online gambling establishments. The app is already established in the Baltic states and Iceland, where it processed one billion transactions last year.
