Bridgerton has made a significant impact on the UK economy, as revealed by figures released ahead of the launch of part two of its third season. Shonda Rhimes, CEO of Shondaland, opened markets for trading at the London Stock Exchange in conjunction with the new season’s release.

The series, set in Regency-era England, has led to a boost in tourism in Bath and surrounding areas. According to Visit West, there was an increase in visits to these areas, contributing over £5m to the local economy.

Rhimes expressed pride in the cultural impact of the Bridgerton universe, noting its popularity across different age groups. She highlighted the show’s influence on trends, baby names, and weddings, as well as its contribution to the UK economy over the past five years.

Anna Mallett, VP Production EMEA at Netflix, emphasized the significant cultural impact of the show and Netflix’s commitment to creating content that resonates with its members. The UK serves as a home for Netflix, and this investment in storytelling reflects their dedication.

Theresa Wise, CEO of the Royal Television Society, commended Bridgerton Universe for its storytelling excellence and diverse British talent involved in its production. She noted that it has a global audience appeal and provided jobs and economic benefits to various sectors of the UK economy.
