The Seahawks have officially signed UFL running back Ricky Person Jr. from the Birmingham Stallions, while also announcing three cuts. Cornerback Ro Torrence, defensive end Rason Williams, and running back TaMerik Williams were waived on Monday. All three had signed with Seattle as undrafted free agents in May.

Ro Torrence, a player from Arizona State, had a standout 2023 season with 37 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception. As a redshirt junior in 2022, he led the team with eight pass breakups and 36 tackles. Rason Williams, who played defensive line at Louisiana Tech for one season, started all 12 games and recorded 25 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Meanwhile, TaMerik Williams returned to North Dakota State due to COVID-19 for an extra year of eligibility and led the team with 767 rushing yards in 2023.

The Seahawks have been actively shaping their roster ahead of the upcoming NFL draft. With these latest cuts, they have freed up more cap space to potentially make additional signings or trades before the draft begins in April.

Person Jr.’s signing is particularly notable as he was considered one of the top prospects in the UFL’s inaugural season. He rushed for over 1,800 yards and scored nine touchdowns in just seven games for the Stallions last year.

The cuts announced by the Seahawks will likely have an impact on their draft strategy moving forward. They may now be looking to fill key positions such as cornerback or defensive end with picks from this year’s draft class.

Overall, these cuts represent a significant shift in Seattle’s roster as they continue to prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
