Salford City has announced the signing of centre-back Stephan Negru on a season-long loan from Oxford United. Negru, who was part of Oxford’s promotion-winning squad last season, will reunite with his former boss Karl Robinson at Salford.

The move marks the third addition to Salford’s team this summer, following the arrivals of West Ham winger Dan Chesters and striker Cole Stockton from Burton Albion.

Negru expressed his excitement about returning to work under Robinson, stating that he trusts in Robinson’s coaching abilities and is looking forward to getting the playing time he needs. He mentioned that Robinson builds confidence in his players and plays a style of football that Negru enjoys.

Negru started his career with Shelbourne in the League of Ireland before making a move to Oxford at the beginning of the January 2023 transfer window. His signing with Salford will see him reunite with former teammates at Oxford, including defender Patrick Chambers and midfielder Marcus Kelly.
