The return of college football to SHI Stadium means the return of themed nights at the stadium. This week, Rutgers football announced that the blackout game will be held on September 27 when Washington makes a trip to Piscataway. The game, presented by Horizon, will be aired on FOX at 8 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear black and arrive early to see the pregame light and fireworks show. For the first time during the 2024 campaign, Rutgers players will wear their black uniforms and helmets. A Rutgers Blackout t-shirt will also be given to fans upon entering the stadium. Additionally, the pregame festivities will include some of the top food trucks in the state and live entertainment. Giveaways will include “Beat Washington” buttons and shakers, and football letter winners and the 2024 Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame class will be honored during the game.
As they prepare for this matchup, Rutgers is looking to break their losing streak against Washington. The two programs have faced each other twice before but this will be their first meeting in Big Ten play as Washington was previously in Pac-12. The only other themed night that has been announced is ‘Community Game’ which will take place on September 7 when Akron visits SHI Stadium.
