In Moscow, Russia, a synagogue was the target of an attack that was thwarted by security forces. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the successful prevention of the terrorist attack, which had been planned by a suspect from a Central Asian country. According to reports from Tass news agency, the man had been carrying out reconnaissance around the synagogue and had purchased components to create an improvised explosive device.

When confronted by authorities, the suspect engaged in armed resistance and was neutralized. The FSB discovered a ready-to-use improvised explosive device and other explosives in the suspect’s home. This incident follows the ISIS attack on the Crocus concert hall in March, which resulted in over 130 deaths. Security measures in Moscow have been heightened as a result of these threats, with concerns also extending to potential attacks in other countries.

The Director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, has expressed concerns about coordinated attacks during a hearing in Congress. He emphasized that lone wolf attackers inspired by events in the Middle East pose an immediate threat. The focus remains on preventing individuals or small groups from carrying out such attacks.
