Snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan has weighed in on the debate surrounding the future of the Crucible, which hosts the World Championship. The iconic venue has been home to snooker’s premier event since 1977, but with its contract set to expire in 2027, there is speculation that it may be moved elsewhere. Matchroom Sport’s president, Barry Hearn, has indicated that Sheffield Council must make improvements to keep the World Championship in Sheffield.

In a recent interview, Hearn revealed that changes were made for the 2024 tournament, but he believes further upgrades are necessary to enhance the experience for players. O’Sullivan expressed his agreement and offered his own suggestions for improvements. He believes that the venue is a bit dated and could benefit from updates and better facilities for players.

O’Sullivan suggested several potential improvements, including relaxation rooms, more practice tables, showers, and a modern dressing room. He also praised the recent addition of courtesy cars for players, which he said made their experience more comfortable. Despite acknowledging the recent improvements, O’Sullivan emphasized the need for further enhancements to cater to the players’ needs.

Hearn has indicated that he is willing to work with Sheffield Council to make these changes and ensure that the Crucible remains home to the World Championship. With O’Sullivan on board and supporting these efforts, it seems likely that Sheffield will be able to retain its position as snooker’s premier venue for years to come.
